Low Temperatures – Gritting

January 21, 2020

At present all of the roads, highways and footpaths within the development are the responsibility of Crest Nicholson and the other housing developers, prior to being either adopted by Swindon Borough Council or transferred to the Tadpole Garden Village Community Interest Company.

Unfortunately it is not practical for Crest Nicholson or the other developers to grit all roads and footpaths within the development, therefore gritting is not carried out.

For roads and footpaths that eventually transfer to the Tadpole Garden Village Community Interest Company it is not intended that the Management Company will arrange for gritting of these roads and footpaths either, as there is no allowance within the service charge budget for the cost of any gritting.  Property Owners are therefore not paying for gritting to be carried out through their annual service charge.

For the roads and footpaths that are eventually adopted by Swindon Borough Council, once adopted, it is unlikely that the council will arrange for gritting of these roads and footpaths either. The council prioritises the A and B roads, plus other roads of local importance, such as access roads to emergency services during bad weather.

For further information regarding the Council’s approach to gritting roads please see the link here.

Residents are therefore urged to take due care and consideration around the development during periods of low temperatures.
